Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Inpatient Med/Surg position in Alaska, caring for a diverse patient population including pediatric, adult, post-surgical, and behavioral health patients.

• Inpatient Med/Surg unit in a remote Alaska facility
• Patient population spans birth to elderly, including post-surgical, behavioral health, and OB patients
• Both pediatric and adult patient experience is especially sought after
• Variable shift schedule covering both days and nights
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Alaska RN license in good standing required
• Current BLS certification required for the full duration of the assignment
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required
• Completed nursing education from an NLN-approved institution
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training required
• Competency documentation must be provided upon arrival, including: IV/Central Line Site Care, Fall Precautions, Age-Specific Competencies, Abuse/Neglect, Pain Management, Restraints and Seclusion, End of Life Care, Blood Transfusions, and Infant Abduction
• DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsible for patient care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, including initial assessment and reassessment every 24 hours
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality, cost-effective patient outcomes
• Provides oversight of unit secretaries and PCTs in collaboration with the Charge Nurse
• Candidates must pass a medication calculation math test (adult and pediatric) upon arrival before working the floor
• Orientation takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday
• Hospital housing is available and highly recommended given the remote location — shared units with private bedrooms in gender-specific housing; no dogs allowed; travelers coordinate directly with the facility
• The facility will reimburse economy-level flights to and from the assignment; detailed flight and luggage receipts must be submitted to American Traveler for reimbursement
• Flight itinerary must be submitted one week prior to the start date; the facility will assist with airport pickup at the start of the assignment only
• Return transportation is provided by the facility at the conclusion of the assignment, except in cases of policy violations or voluntary departure
