Description
American Traveler is hiring a Stepdown RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of PCU/stepdown/ICU experience and frequent floating to ICU and MedSurg units.
Details
- >Hospital-based 21-bed Stepdown unit with frequent floating to ICU and MedSurg units
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
- Patient ratios are Stepdown 1:4-5, ICU 1:2, and MedSurg 1:5-6
- Cares for patients on non-titrating drips including Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, and Cardene
- Manages vascular patients including fem-pop and CEA cases
- Cares for NSTEMI and post-cardiac cath with intervention patients
- Manages CIWA patients receiving IVP Ativan (no Precedex)
- Provides care for peritoneal dialysis patients and coordinates with the Dialysis Department for HD
- Manages stable BiPAP, heated high-flow (<80%), and home ventilator (Trilogy) patients
- Performs wound care and nebulizer treatments
- Uses Meditech EMR
- Every-other-weekend (EOW) work required
- Weekly orientation held every Wednesday
- 13-week assignment length
Requirements
- >Active SC or Compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/stepdown/ICU experience required
- ICU experience required due to frequent floating to ICU units
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral/PICC line care
- Experience with blood product administration
- Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, high-flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care
- Experience with cardiac drip titration and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Wound care and wound vac experience
- Experience with pacemakers and pre/post cardiac cath care
- Meditech charting experience preferred but not required
Additional Information
- >Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel rate
- Frequent floating required across Stepdown, ICU, and MedSurg units; must be comfortable working in all three settings
- Scrubs must be royal blue and white
- Holiday and weekend coverage required in rotation with staff
- RTO must be approved prior to assignment start, with minimal to no time off requested, especially in the first weeks
- Returning staff must have been gone at least 1 year and in good standing at time of departure to be eligible
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Charge experience preferred but not required
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required, so first-time travelers may be considered
