Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to work nights, including holidays.
Details
- Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit at a community hospital setting
- Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Night shift: 18:45–07:15 (3x12)
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling unit
- Floating may be required to the main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
- No on-call requirements
- Pyxis used for medication management
- ACLS, telemetry monitoring experience, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, CBI, port access/management, CVA, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy care, prior charge experience, and community hospital experience are preferred
- Contract length of 13–20 weeks; 36 or 48 hours per week available
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Required clinical skills include: Med/Surg and MS/Tele nursing, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response/Code teams, bowel obstruction care, colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV insertion and maintenance, heparin/insulin/PCA administration, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP management, HFNC, nasal cannula and oxygen administration, oral suctioning, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
- Must be able to pass an EKG test prior to start
- Must be available to work holidays (at least 2 out of 3 major holidays required)
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required before start)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a reduced rate
- Orientation is 24 hours, scheduled weekly; approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are also required
- RTO is limited to 7 days maximum per contract; RTO cannot be taken during the first week of the assignment (orientation) and cannot fall on a holiday without facility approval
- No block scheduling permitted, except for weekend blocks
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP employee of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office is possible
- Travel pairs are permitted; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Navy blue or white scrubs required
