Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and the ability to work night shifts with rotating weekend coverage.

Details

  • MS/Tele unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, surgical recovery, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and failure to thrive
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
  • Night shift: 18:45–07:15 (4x12-hour shifts)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Contract length of 13–20 weeks with the option of 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Floating may be required to the main campus (NHRMC), approximately 32 minutes away
  • No on-call requirement
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Pyxis used for medication management

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Required skills include: telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response/Code teams, bowel obstruction and ostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line and PICC line management, phlebotomy, IV insertion and maintenance, heparin, insulin, and PCA administration, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, isolation precautions/PPE, and wound care/wound vac
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Must be available to work holidays (minimum 2 out of 3 major holidays required)
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

  • Preferred skills include: ACLS, on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram and post-cardiac surgery care, post-MI care, IV insulin protocols, bariatric surgery, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), port access/management, CVA care, substance withdrawal management, surgical drain care, ABG interpretation, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy care, charge nurse experience, electronic documentation, and community hospital experience
  • Navy blue or white scrubs required
  • Orientation is 24 hours with weekly orientation sessions; 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules are required
  • Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Consolidation to a centralized location mid-contract is possible, and staff may be reassigned to other units as needed
  • RTO is capped at 7 days per contract; RTO is not permitted during the first week of assignment and cannot fall on holidays without facility approval
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional Medical Center must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
  • Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travel pairs are permitted; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
