Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU (MICU) night shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Patient ratio of 1:2 in the Medical ICU (MICU)
  • Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, DKA, COPD, and heart failure
  • Specialized procedures include central line insertion, chest tubes, arterial lines, and invasive monitoring
  • Equipment includes HelloCare and Tele-ICU systems
  • EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication dispensing); SBAR (communication)
  • Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per contract
  • Floating may be required to the Med/Surg unit as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Self-scheduling unit

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required; license pending at time of consideration is acceptable
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of MICU or relevant RN experience required
  • Proficiency in: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, arterial line management, central line care, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, continuous IV sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, blood product administration, procedural sedation, TPN/lipids, IV insulin protocols, CVP monitoring, and isolation/PPE protocols
  • Experience with renal failure (acute and chronic), acute kidney injury, liver failure, pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, and respiratory failure preferred
  • Two manager or supervisor professional references from within the past 12 months are highly preferred; references pending at time of consideration are acceptable but required prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Orientation is conducted weekly and totals 24 hours; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
  • Pre-start modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles) and must also be completed annually; modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different rate
  • Travel pairs are permitted, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Preferred experience includes CVICU, Neuro ICU, SICU, post-cardiac surgery care, thermoregulation, GI surgery, PICC line management, charge nurse experience, and community hospital experience
