Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele (Neuro) position requiring at least 2 prior travel contracts and strong telemetry and Med/Surg skills, working 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- MS/Tele unit within a hospital setting, with a primary focus on stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neuro diagnoses
- Unit has a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); travelers are not typically assigned to the EMU unless specifically trained
- 42-bed unit with a daily census of 42 patients
- Patient ratio is 1:6
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15); 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Travelers are required to work every other weekend
- Floating is required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units; frequent floating is possible
- Epic used for charting; Pyxis and SBAR communication framework also in use
- 13-week contract with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
- At least 2 successfully completed travel contracts required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Required certifications: BLS and NIHSS
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Proficient in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with neurological/neuro-stepdown patients required (e.g., CVA, seizure disorders, TBI)
- Skills in central line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, and peripheral line care
- Ability to manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration required)
- Experience with non-invasive airway management, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), and oxygen delivery systems
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years are highly preferred (pending references accepted at time of consideration but required prior to start)
Additional Information
- 36-hour unit orientation provided
- Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); must be completed before the first day and annually thereafter
- Must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved (excluding holidays), with anything beyond 7 days requiring facility approval
- RTO cannot be requested after signing; if RTO includes weekends, those days may be added to the end of the contract
- If a shift is missed, the traveler is expected to make it up within the same week or at the end of the contract
- Navy scrubs required
- Candidates who have previously worked at this health system (permanent, PRN, or EP staff) must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply; prior employment details must be disclosed for facility approval
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a reduced rate
- Travel pairs are permitted provided they are assigned to different units and have their own transportation
- Neuro stepdown experience is preferred
