Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a CVICU Float Pool position requiring a CA RN license and a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience with specialized cardiac equipment.
Details
- Float pool assignment covering three hospital campuses: Thornton (La Jolla), Jacobs (La Jolla), and Hillcrest
- RN will be notified by phone 2 hours before each shift of which facility they will be working
- May float to the emergency department inpatient overflow (EDIP) unit
- CVICU patient population includes cardiac, neurological, stroke, general medical/surgical, renal, liver/solid organ transplant, and trauma patients
- Required equipment includes IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), Swan-Ganz catheter, and epicardial pacing wires
- Also requires proficiency with arterial lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilators, telemetry, and IV insertion
- Preferred skills include pulmonary artery lines and ICP monitoring
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
- Scheduling is determined by the facility 4 weeks in advance and sent to the RN two weeks before the schedule begins; no blocked or self-scheduling
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Proficiency with arterial lines and phlebotomy required
- Experience with IABP, Swan-Ganz, epicardial pacing wires, PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilators, and telemetry required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- BSN preferred
- At least one supervisory/director/manager reference from the past year covering the CVICU specialty is required; a second reference from within the past 2 years (charge nurse, co-worker, or educator) is also required
- Must pass a Pass/Fail EKG exam (up to 3 attempts)
Additional Information
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers — no radius restriction applies
- No RTO is permitted within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; all time-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration and cannot be changed once submitted
- Candidates who were previously employed by UCSD must receive facility approval before starting an assignment; please disclose any prior employment at time of consideration
- Former staff must have been separated for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
- First-time travelers should refer to position details for eligibility
