Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Cudahy, WI, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience on 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- Work in a 33-bed Med/Surg unit at a 100-bed Level IV Trauma Center located in Cudahy, WI, approximately 20 minutes from Milwaukee
- Patient population is primarily geriatric, including post-op orthopedic (total hips, total knees), post-op urology (TURPs, cystos), post-op general surgery (ostomies, gallbladder, appendectomies, colectomies), and general medical patients (CHF, COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI issues, CIWA, IVDA, diabetics, cardiac overflow)
- Average daily census of 24–26 patients
- Night shift RN-to-patient ratio is 1:6–7, with the possibility of up to 1:8 in uncommon circumstances
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- 50% of holidays required per contract
- Floating may be required to other Med/Surg units or anywhere in the hospital where Med/Surg patients are located, including ER hold and ICU; traveler will only take a Med/Surg patient assignment when floating
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; unit equipment includes CPM, virtual monitoring equipment, and ceiling lift
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele techs and a central monitor at the nurses' station
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with relevant skills including orthopedic patient care, CBI, NG tube placement and management, foley placement and management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drain management, wound care, central line/port/midline blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin within set parameters
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN collected within the last year
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Candidate middle name or initial required for consideration

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
- Orientation includes a facility NEO session and one 12-hour shift on the unit to learn workflow
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius rule applies
- Department support includes a Charge RN with a reduced patient assignment, HUC until 1900, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, Respiratory Therapy 24/7, Hospitalist 24/7, and OT/PT/ST during daytime hours
- Scrub color must be any solid color, professional appearance; no graphics, logos, denim, or designs
- Free employee parking is available on-site
- RTO requests must be submitted through and approved by the manager; the schedule is made in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks before the schedule begins
- Low census on-call placement is possible for up to 36 hours per contract
