Description
American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Cudahy, WI, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience on 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- Located at a 100-bed Level IV Trauma Center in Cudahy, WI, approximately 20 minutes from Milwaukee
- Med/Surg unit with 28 beds; average daily census of 20–22 patients
- Patient population is primarily geriatric with cardiac (CHF, chest pain observation), neuro (seizure/stroke observation, TIA rule-out, altered mental status), and general medical diagnoses (COPD, respiratory, kidney, liver, GI)
- No Cath Lab on site; patients requiring cardiac catheterization are transferred to a sister facility
- Night shift RN-to-patient ratio is 1:6–7, with the possibility of up to 1:8 on occasion
- Day shift RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- 50% of holidays per contract required
- Floating may be required to other Med/Surg units or anywhere in the hospital where Med/Surg patients are located, including ER hold and ICU; traveler will only be assigned Med/Surg patients
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
- Centralized telemetry monitoring with telemetry techs; central monitor also located at the nurse's station
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or Telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with NG tube placement/management, Foley placement/management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, and central line/port/midline blood draws
- Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Experience titrating drips within set parameters (Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, insulin)
- WI or compact RN license required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the last year required for consideration
- Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Candidate middle name or initial required for consideration
Additional Information
- Charge RN carries a reduced patient assignment; HUC available until 2300
- Phlebotomy support available for peripheral lab draws; Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage available 24/7
- OT, PT, and ST available during daytime hours
- Orientation includes a facility new employee orientation (NEO) and one 12-hour shift on the unit
- Schedule is created by the manager in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks prior to the start of the schedule
- Low census call is possible for up to 36 hours per contract
- Scrub colors must be any solid color and professional in appearance; no graphics, logos, denim, or designs

- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
