Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level II Trauma acute care facility in West Virginia, requiring ACLS certification and the ability to pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Details

• Float Pool assignment covering multiple Med/Surg Telemetry units in an acute care, Level II Trauma facility
• Primary float units are 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds); other units include 4N, 5N, 5S, 6S, and a 20-bed Critical Care unit
• Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases (chemo administered by permanent staff only)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5–6; acuity may occasionally result in up to 7 patients near end of shift
• Telemetry monitoring via Philips equipment; most units have monitor techs, but RNs must be able to independently read and interpret cardiac strips
• CPAP and BiPap present on units; managed by Respiratory Therapy
• CNAs are available on all units
• Charge nurse available on every unit 24/7; day charge carries no patient assignment, night charge does carry patients
• No drip titration required; float pool RNs will be assigned basic telemetry patients within their scope of practice
• Charting via Epic EMR
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holidays worked on a rotating schedule shared with permanent staff
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Must pass a facility cardiac rhythm exam prior to placement
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Experience in a Med/Surg Telemetry or similar acute care setting required

Additional Information

• Float Pool RNs report to the clinical coordinator's office before shift start to receive unit assignment
• Travelers will likely be assigned a 'parent unit' and given basic telemetry patients appropriate to their scope of practice
• Orientation consists of 1–2 preceptored shifts on the unit
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Cumulative travel experience within the WVU system is capped at one year, after which a 2-year break is required before returning
