Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring at least 2 years of relevant experience and a NC or compact RN license, with night shift availability and strong critical care skills.
Details
- Night shift position: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- 13-week contract
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Works every other weekend with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per contract
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Self-scheduling
- ICU setting managing complex, critically ill patients with diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, COPD, and heart failure
- Specialized procedures include central line insertion, chest tube management, arterial lines, and invasive monitoring
- Equipment used includes HelloCare and Tele-ICU technology
- EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
- 24-hour unit orientation; weekly orientation schedule
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required; license pending at time of consideration is acceptable
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care RN experience
- Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- Skills required: arterial line management, central line care, CVP monitoring, IV insulin protocols, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, procedural sedation, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, blood product administration, TPN/lipids, continuous IV sedation, phlebotomy, and isolation/PPE protocols
- Experience with renal conditions including acute kidney injury and chronic/acute renal failure
- Experience with pulmonary conditions including respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, and pulmonary edema
- Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months are highly preferred
Additional Information
- Preferred experience includes CVICU, neuro ICU, or surgical ICU backgrounds
- Preferred skills include PICC line management, post cardiac surgery care (non-OR), thermoregulation, GI surgery, and previous charge nurse experience
- Community hospital experience is preferred
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a modified rate
- Former permanent, PRN, or employed staff of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed before the assignment begins; modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- RTO of 7 days or fewer may be auto-approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are welcome; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
