Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool ED Holding/MS Tele position requiring at least 2 years of experience and the ability to manage high-acuity adult medical/surgical patients across multiple units.

Details

  • This is an ED Holding support position located within a hospital float pool, where patients in the Emergency Department await inpatient bed placement
  • Patient population includes adult medical/surgical diagnoses, with potential for PCU-level acuity
  • Travelers are expected to float to ED and MedSurg areas as needed in addition to primary ED Holding duties
  • Target patient ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele patients and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
  • Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM, with the option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend is required
  • EMR system is Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication using SBAR
  • Cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other standard monitoring equipment are used on the unit
  • Unit orientation is 12 hours, with 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules also required
  • Schedule is manager-assigned

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Proficiency in MS/Tele skills including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Required clinical skills include: colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula and oxygen mask use, oral suctioning, portable oxygen, and tracheostomy management
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to assignment start
  • Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

  • Preferred skills include: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injury, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
  • Contract staff are assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • RTO of up to 7 days may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment (orientation)
  • Former permanent, PRN, or employee pool staff of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
  • Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Contract extensions beyond 13 weeks are available for interested candidates
  • First-time travelers are not required for this position
  • All candidates will be interviewed prior to placement due to the high-acuity, mixed nature of the unit
