Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Boise, ID, requiring at least 2 years of med/surg experience and proficiency with central lines, NG tubes, and ostomy care.

Details

  • 35-bed Medical Surgical unit (Floor 6) in an acute care hospital setting
  • Multi-specialty unit with a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery, as well as urology (TURP, cysto, prostatectomy, CBIs), colorectal, vascular surgery (AAA repair, endarterectomy, fempop bypass), acute care surgery, gynecological surgery (hysterectomies), plastic surgery/breast reconstruction (mastectomies), cystic fibrosis, Whipple surgery, pectus surgery, and general medical patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5 based on acuity, supported by an acuity tool for real-time assignment balancing
  • CNAs available at approximately 1:8–10 ratio
  • Remote telemetry monitoring in use; RNs must be able to read telemetry strips
  • Respiratory equipment on unit includes CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and BiPAP (BiPAP-dependent patients are transferred to a higher level of care)
  • Heparin drips administered at set rates; RNs are not required to titrate drips
  • EMR: Epic
  • 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend required, with potential for more frequent weekend shifts based on unit need
  • Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
  • Floating to Med/Surg units at affiliated local hospitals is required; travelers are first to float (not common)

Requirements

  • Active ID or Compact RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required; must be active — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Proficiency with central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, and drain management required
  • Professional communication skills required
  • Experience with Epic EMR
  • Experience with CBIs and foley management preferred
  • Driver's license required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates accepted

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse is available on each shift and does not carry a patient assignment; unit leadership (assistant nurse managers and manager) provides day, night, and weekend on-call coverage
  • Travelers with charge nurse experience may be asked to serve in a charge role
  • Orientation consists of one didactic day with a unit educator followed by one unit-specific orientation shift
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accommodated
  • Former permanent employees of the health system must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • No specific scrub color required; clean and professional appearance expected
