Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Med-Surg unit at a Level I Trauma academic medical center in West Virginia, requiring telemetry strip reading ability and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience.

Details

• 7 West is a combined Stepdown and Medical-Surgical floor unit with 32 total beds (12 Stepdown, 20 Floor)
• Patient ratios are 1:3 on the Stepdown side and 1:4–6 on the Floor side
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, UTI, abdominal pain, and GIP Hospice overflow
• Stepdown patients may require titrated drips; floor patients receive PCAs, heparin, and similar set-rate infusions
• Unit uses telemetry monitoring; RNs are expected to read strips alongside dedicated telemetry monitor techs
• Charting is performed in Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Two weekends per schedule are required
• Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday schedule
• Travelers may be floated to any floor or stepdown unit within the facility
• Royal blue scrubs are required

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• A valid, unexpired driver's license must be provided for consideration
• Candidate's driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility

• Level I Trauma, acute care hospital setting
• A dedicated charge nurse is budgeted per unit and a House Supervisor is always available
• Unit is supported by 4 nurse aides when fully staffed for 32 beds
• Respiratory therapy manages ventilator, CPAP, and BiPap equipment as needed
• COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemption requests are available
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
• Local candidates are not accepted; applicants must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
• Two supervisor and peer references are required for consideration (1 supervisor, 1 peer/charge RN), with one supervisor reference from any permanent facility worked within the last 12 months
• A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
