Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown (8SE) position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring strong MedSurg Stepdown experience and the ability to titrate drips and read telemetry strips.

Details

• 32-bed Stepdown unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population consists of post-surgical thoracic and general medicine patients
• Patient ratios are 1:3 for stepdown assignments and 1:4 for combo assignments (mix of stepdown and floor patients)
• RNs are required to interpret and chart patient rhythms with assessments every 4 hours, or more frequently during medication titration
• Centralized telemetry interprets and places EKG strips into patient charts; each unit has a centralized monitor at the nurses station and monitors in patient rooms
• Titratable drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitro, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix (no vasopressors); titration is performed per MD-ordered parameters
• BiPAP and trach patients are present on the unit; no ventilators
• 3–4 CNAs on shift provide nursing assistant support; 1 Charge Nurse and 3 House Supervisors are in-house
• 12-hour night shifts
• 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday, Sunday, Saturday rotation)
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating is rare
• EMR: Epic

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience required
• Ability to titrate drips and interpret telemetry strips required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Epic EMR experience (used on unit)
• Valid driver's license required for consideration; address must reflect residence more than 50 miles from the facility
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted for approval

Additional Information

• 3-shift unit orientation provided
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
• Candidates may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
• Submission requires a driver's license, copies of certifications, a skills checklist completed within the past year, and two references (one supervisor, one peer or additional supervisor)
