Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown (8NE) position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in West Virginia, with telemetry monitoring, drip titration, and night shift requirements.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care stepdown unit (8NE) within a Level 1 Trauma Center — the only Level 1 trauma center in West Virginia
- 24-bed unit with all beds designated as stepdown level care, all equipped with telemetry monitoring
- Patient population includes traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic fractures, complex trauma, respiratory-compromised patients, reconstructive plastic surgery (microvascular free flaps), advanced diabetic management, general surgical, and complex wound management cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, supported by clinical associates (typically 3 aides for 24 patients)
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Labetalol, and Amiodarone; no sedative drips on this unit
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and chronic/non-weaning vents
- All 24 beds have telemetry monitoring; telemetry techs read strips centrally, but RNs must have basic EKG interpretation skills
- Video monitoring is also in use for patient safety
- 11 rooms are equipped with in-ceiling lifts to support early patient mobilization
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend depending on staffing
- Holiday coverage required on a rotational basis
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating is done on a rotational basis alongside regular staff; travelers are placed into the rotation
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN is not required
- Basic EKG interpretation skills required
- Strong assessment skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment required
- Experience with drip titration required
- A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Candidate's driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
Additional Information
- Unit orientation is conducted with a clinical preceptor
- Unit charge nurse is present on the unit; house supervisors and night shift supervisors are available 24/7 throughout the hospital
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- All candidates interview directly with a unit manager
- Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
