Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in New Mexico, requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to titrate drips.

Details

• Work in an acute care inpatient Med/Surg unit with 26 beds
• Patient population includes medical, surgical, and PCU-level patients; no in-house ICU — critical patients are transferred to higher-level facilities
• Nurses may be called upon to rotate into the PCU area, where patients may be on drips, have invasive monitors, or require higher-acuity care
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5
• Nurse aides are available on the unit (1:8 ratio) and assist with vitals, ADLs, I/Os, transfers, transports, and showers; RNs are responsible for AccuChecks
• Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7 and manages all respiratory equipment, including continuous BiPAP/CPAP
• Titratable drips include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in use
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips; unit uses Mindray cardiac monitors
• Charge nurse takes a lesser patient assignment; travelers are not typically asked to take on a charge role
• Charting system: TruBridge Evident (CPSI)
• 12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation may be required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement for RNs
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active RN license for New Mexico or a Compact license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg telemetry (MS/Tele) experience required
• Ability to titrate drips required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• PCU or stepdown experience preferred
• LTAC experience is a plus
• Ability to maintain intubation is a plus
• Minimum 1 year of experience required

Additional Information

• Unit-specific online modules must be completed prior to working the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete
• Orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor depending on individual needs
• Scheduling is flexible but not guaranteed as block scheduling; travelers are expected to help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
• This facility is a smaller community hospital with broader capabilities than typical for its size and is currently working toward Level IV trauma designation
• Navy blue scrubs required
