Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and the ability to work 12-hour night shifts in an acute care setting.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a hospital setting
- 28-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes adults with mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke diagnoses, primarily admitted through the ED
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, octreotide, insulin, and maintenance IV medications
- Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit; RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry
- EMR: Epic
- Specialty equipment includes Code Carts, LUCAS Machines, Hoyer lifts, and Sit and Stand devices
- CNA/patient care tech support available at a 1:14 ratio; charge nurse is present each shift and carries an assignment
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- 6-weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period; night weekends are Fridays and Saturdays
- Floating required to Med/Surg and all hospital areas including ICU/ED based on patient care needs
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry monitoring independently
- A copy of your driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health — those employed PRN through outside firms may be considered

- High-flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges — team-oriented nurses who thrive in a fast-paced environment are encouraged to apply
- Unit secretary is available 2–3 days per week and a stocking clerk 3 days per week
- Orientation consists of one week of classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass
- Scrub color: Navy blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
- Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point
- Candidates who were directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible — those employed PRN through outside agencies may be considered
