Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring a minimum of 18 months of ICU experience and the ability to float across a multi-facility regional health system.

Details

• Work in a 10-bed Medical ICU (with 4 PCU beds used for surge capacity only) at a 109-licensed-bed community hospital designated as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center
• Average daily census of approximately 7.3 patients
• Patient population includes sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke/TIA, new-onset cardiac arrhythmias, uncontrolled DM/DKA, ARDS, ETOH withdrawal, minor trauma, and respiratory illnesses (Flu, COVID, PNA)
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:2–3, acuity-dependent; assignment may include a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients
• CNA support is not available on night shift
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM (36 hours/week)
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
• No on-call requirements for travelers
• Floating is required within the unit (Med/Tele, PCU, ED holds) and across Region 1 facilities, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and the Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates must be willing to float to all listed facilities
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Philips

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the past year
• Stroke experience and NIH stroke scale assessment skills required
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
• Experience with arterial lines (ART lines), CVPs, critical care drips, chest tubes, vent management, trach care, NGT/Dobhoff placement, PEG tubes, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, PIV starts, and wound care required
• Experience with medication drip management including critical care and cardiac titration drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF required
• Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs (including STAT) required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• RNs are responsible for bedside and central telemetry monitoring for the unit
• Night shift RNs will provide report to the Intensivist who rounds Monday–Friday around 6:00 AM; the VCC is the overnight contact for urgent situations
• Intubation support hierarchy: Hospitalist (first call), CRNA (second), ED (third)
• Respiratory Therapy (RT) is available 24/7 and manages ventilator settings
• IV/VAT team and CNA support are available on day shift only; Phlebotomy is available around the clock
• Orientation includes NEO followed by 2–3 days of departmental orientation
• Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles; RTO requires manager approval
• Staff must be clocked in between 6:38 PM and 6:45 PM
• Scrub color is navy; undershirts must be white or navy; no t-shirts or Crocs permitted
• Unit culture is team-oriented with an emphasis on open communication and receptiveness to constructive feedback
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
