Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract in a MICU/Neuro ICU setting, requiring critical care experience and the ability to titrate vasoactive drips.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a combined MICU (28 beds) and Neuro ICU (20 beds) unit
- Patient population includes COVID, ARDS, DKA, GI bleed, sepsis, acute renal failure, stroke, dialysis patients, head bleeds, and patients with ventricular/external brain drains
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1; nurse aide ratio is 10:1
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Levophed, phenylephrine, Versed, paralytics, heparin, and insulin
- Telemetry is monitored remotely from another floor; no monitor techs on unit
- Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 with ventilator, CPAP, and BiPAP support
- Free charge nurse is available and not included in staffing ratios; intensivist/fellow coverage on nights
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7am)
- Requires 3 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) and 2 Fridays per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required on an every-other-holiday basis; for night shift, the holiday shift falls on the day prior
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating may be required to other ICU or step-down units on a rotational basis
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care nursing experience required
- Experience titrating vasoactive and sedation drips required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested
Additional Information
- 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts
- Orientation consists of a couple of on-unit shifts
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Preference and block scheduling accommodated based on unit needs
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Travelers are not eligible to work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year; after reaching that mark, a 2-year break is required before returning
- A driver's license copy is required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but 2 years of ICU experience is required
