Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Float Pool position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Float pool position covering all inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units, with additional floating to the ED for holds as needed
- 637-bed Level 1 Trauma designation, academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
- Med/Surg unit sizes range from 20–36 beds per unit
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, A-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN patient ratio is 1:4–6
- 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A
- Weekend rotation: 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Central telemetry monitoring unit for cardiac rhythm oversight
- EMR: Epic (6 months of experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris | Medication dispensing: Pyxis | Monitors: Philips | Vitals: VS3 monitors
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS required; ACLS preferred (EKG competency exam required during onboarding)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- At least 6 months of Epic EMR experience required
- Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR band management, post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip experience: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine (titration for HR, not BP)
- Required clinical skills: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, Glucommander, strong assessment and time management skills
- One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include care coordination with the interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education
- CNAs assist with vitals, blood glucose checks, baths, bed changes, feeding, ambulation, turning, and patient safety; Unit Secretary is on-unit 7A–11P and house-wide 11P–7A
- Charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a Resource team that floats to all units are available for support
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7; PICC team available (no dedicated IV team)
- Phlebotomy: most units use lab-collect phlebotomy; RNs draw from CVLs
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- RN scrub color: Navy
- Med/Surg certification is a plus but not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies, and the same rate applies for local travelers
