Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Floor position at a Level I Trauma academic medical center in West Virginia, requiring telemetry strip reading ability and a valid WV or compact RN license.
Details
- 7 West is a combined Stepdown and Floor unit with 32 total beds (12 Stepdown, 20 Floor)
- Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; Floor ratio is 1:4-6
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, UTI, abdominal pain, overflow for most services, and GIP Hospice
- Telemetry monitoring is in use on the unit; RNs must read strips in conjunction with telemetry monitor techs
- Drips are administered in the Stepdown; Floor patients may receive PCAs, heparin, and similar
- EMR is Epic
- Shifts are 12 hours; day shift runs 7:00am–7:30pm and night shift runs 7:00pm–7:30am
- Weekend requirement is 2 weekends per schedule (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday schedule
- Travelers may be floated to any floor or stepdown unit within the facility
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to read telemetry strips required
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

- Level I Trauma, acute care hospital setting
- A free charge nurse is budgeted per unit and a house supervisor is always available
- Nurse aides are staffed at 4 per shift when fully staffed for 32 beds
- Scrub color is Royal Blue
- COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemption requests are available
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
- Candidates can only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
