Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU position requiring strong neuroscience background, NIHSS certification, and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Acute care setting in a Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
• 31-bed unit (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU) at a neuroscience institute
• Higher acuity neuroscience patient population including strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and post-TPA patients
• Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3; EMU floor ratio of 1:5-6
• Nurse aides available on the unit at a ratio of 1:8-9
• Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips
• Common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin; titration is by physician order or protocol only
• RT is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; vent experience is not required of RNs
• Charge nurse coverage available 24/7
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Weekends and holidays scheduled as needed; every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule block required
• 13-week contract
• Epic EMR used; experience required
• Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required and must be in hand at time of consideration; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong neuro experience required, including a history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH stroke scale assessments
• Epic EMR experience required
• BSN not required
• Driver's license address must reflect residence 50+ miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Royal blue scrubs required
• 2-shift unit orientation provided
• Candidates are expected to participate in the holiday rotation
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review and approval
• Any license history issues must be disclosed prior to consideration
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; after reaching that threshold, a 2-year break is required before returning
• First-time travelers are not explicitly mentioned as eligible; strong neuro experience is required
