Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiac Medical Intermediate (Stepdown) position in St. Louis, MO, requiring at least 1 year of inpatient cardiac stepdown experience and an active MO or compact RN license.
Details
- 32-bed Cardiac Medical Intermediate (Stepdown) unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes post-op CABG/valve, thoracotomies, respiratory failure, and chest pain cases
- Patient ratio of 1:3–1:4
- Equipment used includes chest tubes, temporary pacemakers, and BiPAPs
- EMR: Epic
- Night shift schedule: 4x12, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required as needed to a similar or lower acuity unit
- 24-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license — must meet eligibility criteria for Missouri licensure or hold a current MO or compact RN license
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) required; no certifications expiring within the first 30 days of assignment
- NIHSS certification preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient cardiac stepdown experience required
- Valid U.S. Social Security Number required (Canadian SINs not accepted)
- No employment gaps of 90+ days within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Provides direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all age groups
- Coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize care and comfort
- Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance; push/pull/grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 15 lbs.
- High-risk exposure to blood and body fluids
- Night shift orientation is conducted on day shift; candidate must be available the full orientation week
- Flu vaccination is required for all travelers from November 1–April 1; declinations are not accepted
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a reduced bill rate
- Candidates within 50 miles of the facility are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts; after that, a 1-year separation or transfer to a facility outside the 50-mile radius is required
- RTO of up to 5 days is allowed per assignment but must be made up; only 1 holiday RTO request per assignment
- Dress code: All-black scrubs with a Mercy logo on top; no hoodies, non-logo jackets, t-shirts, open-toed shoes, earbuds, or fake nails
