Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Weirton, WV, requiring at least 1 year of experience and Epic proficiency for 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and fall/weakness cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–7 on days and 1:6–8 on nights
• PCTs are available on the unit with an average ratio of 1:10–12, assisting with vitals, BGMs, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and positioning
• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., heparin, bumex, lasix), with the exception of cardiac drip titration
• Respiratory therapy manages all breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are responsible for monitoring only
• A telemetry monitor tech on another floor reads and monitors telemetry for all patients and alerts the nurse if there is an issue; RNs are not expected to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• Charting is performed using Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), with weekends scheduled as needed
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Copy of an unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Any licensing disciplinary history must be disclosed
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system training and 1 day with a preceptor
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule is managed by the unit manager, who will work with staff on requested time off (RTO); travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent schedule
• Holiday rotation participation may be required
• RN scrub color is navy blue
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before being eligible to return; cumulative experience across WVU facilities applies, and travelers cannot work within the WVU system for more than one year total before a 2-year break is required
• A supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., charge RN) are required for consideration; if the candidate worked at a permanent facility within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
