Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN - Telemetry for a busy cardiac and stroke unit requiring 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit
  • Fast-paced unit with high patient turnover, averaging 78-90 patients per week
  • Target patient ratios of 1:5-6 with potential surge to 6 patients
  • Patient population includes stable pre/post care for pacemaker implantation, ICDs, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, and uncomplicated peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions
  • Cares for patients with unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA diagnoses
  • Manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration capability
  • Unit currently houses stable COVID-positive patients using Opti-flow and chronic BiPAP
  • Night shift schedule: 12-hour shifts, 3x/week, 18:45-07:15
  • Every other weekend required, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
  • On-call requirement with frequency depending on patient census
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • 36 or 48 hour work weeks may be offered
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight, no block scheduling permitted
  • Uses Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication systems

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required, PCU experience not required
  • First-time travelers accepted with 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management
  • Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, including titration
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and Rapid Response/Code team activation
  • Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath and surgery care
  • Experience with TR Band management
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required

Additional Information

  • Provide bedside care for stable cardiac and neurological patients in a high-volume, fast-paced telemetry environment
  • A team lead is available to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Unit orientation is 36 hours, with travelers required to be available every day during week one for hospital orientation
  • Scrubs: navy blue or white (or a mix), Novant t-shirts permitted, matching jackets required (no fleece), and no crocs with holes
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs are allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
  • Assignment lengths of 13-26 weeks available
