Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position at a Michigan hospital, requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience and proficiency with ventilator management and CRRT.
Details
- Mixed MICU unit caring for both ICU and PCU-level patients, including diagnoses such as COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1 for cooling/CRRT/high-acuity patients, 2:1 for vent patients, 3:1 for mixed ICU/PCU assignments, and up to 4:1 for PCU or general med/transfer-status patients
- Special procedures performed include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
- Special equipment includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, CRRT, and massive transfusion protocols
- Unit averages approximately 3 ventilated patients per day
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00–19:30
- Every other weekend required
- Float requirement to other ICU and Med/Surg units as census dictates, in rotation with staff nurses; typical Med/Surg ratios are approximately 1:5–7
Requirements
- Active MI RN license required; pending MI license considered with a concrete ETA and proof of application at time of submission
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and multi-system organ failure care
- Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Experience with arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
- Experience with continuous IV sedation, vasoactive drips, cardiac drips, and procedural sedation
- Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and renal failure management
- Experience with IV insulin protocols and CVA/acute stroke management
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- All requested time off must be submitted prior to offer; any RTO requested after offer must be approved by the on-site manager
- No RTO will be approved during the first two weeks of the assignment
- Holiday coverage is required
- ICU physicians may retain lower-acuity patients in the ICU based on clinical preference, which may affect patient groupings and ratios
