Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical ICU (MICU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and an OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a hospital-based Medical ICU (MICU)
- Patient population includes adults and geriatric patients
- Common diagnoses include oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleed, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
- Common treatments include mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
- Many patients have underlying pulmonary and GI conditions requiring bronchoscopy or endoscopy
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- If assigned a day/night rotating contract, shift assignments may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Epic EMR required
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Proficiency with mechanical ventilators required
- IV insertion skills required
- Epic EMR experience required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or Supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to hemodynamically compromised patients with complex oncologic, pulmonary, and systemic conditions
- Local candidates are accepted
- All candidates must complete Ohio state fingerprinting promptly after booking; detailed instructions will be provided by the credentialing team
- Former facility employees are eligible to apply after a 6-month separation period
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to placement and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or fewer

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
