Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery position requiring active WA or compact licensure and delivery attendance competency.
Details
- Level II NICU / Special Care Nursery in an acute care hospital setting (Trauma Level II)
- 10-bed unit caring for premature infants, low birth weight babies, and neonates recovering from respiratory conditions, hemodynamic issues, and substance exposure; no surgeries or ECMO
- Common interventions include bubble CPAP, high-flow oxygen, vents, TPN, lipids, tube feeds, and care for feeders and growers; infants below 32 weeks are stabilized and transferred
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–3 depending on acuity
- NNP on-site 24/7; RT in-house 24/7; charge nurse present each shift
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holidays rotated with permanent staff
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating to Mother Baby unit may be required
- Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
Requirements
- Active WA state or compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of NICU/SCN experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered with multiple prior travel assignments
- Level II NICU or Special Care Nursery experience required
- Experience with stabilization and attendance at both high- and low-risk deliveries required; postpartum couplet care experience preferred (NICU candidates with SCN Level II experience who attend deliveries may be considered without postpartum experience)
- Experience with vents, bubble CPAP, and high-flow oxygen required
- A driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Provide specialized nursing care to neonates including premature infants, low birth weight babies, and those with respiratory or hemodynamic conditions
- Attend high- and low-risk deliveries and transition newborns as needed
- May perform couplet care in postpartum, including maternal and well-newborn care
- Manager conducts a phone interview with candidates prior to placement
- Orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day with the manager, an 8-hour Epic class, and 2–3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts
- Scrubs are provided
- The unit manager values open communication and expects travelers to adapt to unit workflows, policies and procedures, and constructive feedback
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by a CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
