Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical Telemetry position in Arizona, requiring telemetry strip interpretation skills and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 49-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit (3rd Floor)
- Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, telemetry, post-cath, and total joint replacement cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with Nurse Aide support (1:10–15)
- RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift; Monitor Techs are also present on the unit
- Diltiazem/Cardizem drips administered at a set rate (no titration required)
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
- Charting via Cerner EMR (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation)
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am–7pm
- Every other weekend required (2 weekends per 4-week schedule)
- First to float; may float to East Campus and potentially PCU if qualified
- 13-week contract with 36 hours per week
Requirements
- Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to read and interpret basic telemetry strips required
- Experience with CVA, TIA, and total joint replacement preferred
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract confirmation
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Cannot have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 shift on the unit (12 hours total)
- A pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
- Failing either the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique test on a second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status with CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and the Sacramento, CA region
- Holiday coverage expected for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving Day (2 days and 1 eve, or 2 eves and 1 day)
- Self-scheduling is used; schedules are made 4 weeks out and balanced by the manager
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Both a Charge Nurse and House Supervisor are available on the unit
- No on-call or standby requirements

Traveler friendly, good ratios, great scheduling, decent providers, Uses tiger text to communicate with most doctors. Plenty of hiking activities. Close to Sedona, Flagstaff and Phoenix. 5:1 Med/tele and 3:1 PCU.
Cons
Cost of living is High, roughly $2000-2500 for your own private space. Float between East and West Campus, 25 minutes apart, west will likely be where you spend 75% of your shifts so pick your housing accordingly.
