Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5 years of PICU experience and the ability to work across both General Pediatrics and PICU settings.
Details
- 15-bed General Pediatrics unit and 5-bed PICU within a hospital setting
- General Pediatrics patients ages 0–18 and adult overflow (stable medical cases such as post-appendectomy, cellulitis, etc.) with diagnoses ranging from respiratory illness and diabetes to trauma, neurology, and general surgery
- PICU patients ages 0–18 requiring critical or intensive care for conditions including respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
- Patient ratios: General Pediatrics 1:5; PICU 1:1–2
- Float requirement to NICU (feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5)
- Epic EMR and Omnicell medication dispensing system in use
- 12-hour variable shifts, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census/on-call may be required
- All holidays are expected to be covered
- Pre-approved time off requests only
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Current certifications: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required
- Proficiency with Epic charting system
- Ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients
- Physical assessment skills across patient ages 0 to adult
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Care responsibilities span both General Pediatrics and PICU, requiring comfort and competency in both settings
- RNs are responsible for drawing their own labs and starting their own IVs; ultrasound is available for difficult IV access
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:5), a free-floating charge nurse covering both units, a Nurse Clinician/Nurse Educator, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist with Pediatric APP support, Pediatric Pharmacy, and Pediatric Social Work and Case Management
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation (online and in-person) followed by 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
- First-time travelers are considered only with more than 2 years of PICU experience
- Scrub color: Navy
