Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for an acute care, Level IV trauma facility, covering a wide range of respiratory duties across ER, inpatient, and other areas on rotating day/night shifts.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a Level IV trauma designation
- Respiratory Therapy department covering the ER, inpatient floors, ACU, OR, and potentially outpatient or off-site areas
- Patient population is primarily adult; pediatric patients seen in the ER, OB deliveries, and critical newborns
- Day shift typically staffed with 2 RTs; 1 RT on staff overnight — must be comfortable working as the sole RT in house
- Treatments are divided across AM rounds, ER, and floor splits
- Equipment includes Draeger ventilators, Philips BiPAP/CPAP V60s, Airvo high-flow devices, and Hamilton ventilators (coming soon)
- EMR is Cerner, currently transitioning to Epic
- Rotating day and night shifts, 12-hour shifts with a 7:00 AM start
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or up to 48 hours Thursday–Sunday depending on scheduling)
- Floating within the hospital may be required
- No on-call or standby call requirement
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- RRT credential via NBRC required
- Active certifications required: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
- Experience responding to codes, code blues, C-sections, and conscious sedation required
- Experience with vent management, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, ABG, aerosol/nebulizer therapy, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring required
- Must be comfortable functioning as the sole RT in house
- Intubation experience preferred (performed with a physician present)
- Prior travel experience strongly preferred
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years of relevant experience
- License required if applicable — an active license is not required at time of consideration but must be active by the start date
Additional Information
- Daily responsibilities include setting up and managing ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, ABGs, nebulizer treatments, conscious sedation, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring
- Hospitalist coverage during the day, telehealth medicine at night, and an ER physician in house 24/7 who responds to codes
- Department orientation consists of 2 days focused on equipment and department familiarization
- Holidays that fall on a scheduled shift are expected to be worked
- Scrubs can be provided via on-site scrub dispenser, or candidates may wear their own scrubs; street clothes are permitted for arrival
- Previous employees of this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Candidates whose permanent address is within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which affects the applicable pay rate
- First-time travelers may be considered, though prior travel experience is strongly preferred
