Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Work setting is a 207-bed community hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation (no trauma designation, not a teaching hospital)
  • Unit is a combined 10-bed Med/Surg and 10-bed Progressive Care floor
  • Patient population includes heart failure, chest pain, r/o stroke, sepsis, renal failure, respiratory failure, DKA, and interventional patients requiring titratable drips
  • RN-to-patient ratios: 1:5–6 on Med/Surg and 1:3–4 on PCU
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating is required to all units within scope across Region 1 facilities, which may include Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division sites — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in general PCU skills: stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff/PEG tube placement, drain and tube management (Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley), and PCA pump management
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, insulin, blood products, and IVF
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
  • Orientation includes hospital-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Unit support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team (11a–7p and 11p–7a), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist coverage (24/7), and intensivist/VCC coverage
  • Required scrub color: navy
  • Parking is complimentary
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
  • Schedule cycles run every 6 weeks
