Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center specializing in ENT and ophthalmology, with scrub experience and a minimum of 2 years of OR experience required.
Details
- Fast-paced ambulatory surgery center (ASC) specializing in ENT and eye surgery with 6 ORs
- Patient population spans all age groups: infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Cases include ENT surgery, cataracts, ocular plastics, and head and neck procedures
- Required ENT procedural experience includes: endoscopic sinus procedures, laparoscopic assisted cases, laryngectomy, mastoidectomy/tympanoplasty/stapedectomy, radical neck dissection, septoplasty/rhinoplasty, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, and tracheostomy
- Required pediatric ENT experience includes: myringotomy with tubes, scrub PEDI ENT surgery, and tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy
- Preferred experience includes: bronchoscopy, ophthalmology procedures (cataract extraction/implant, corneal transplant, eye trauma, glaucoma surgery, vitrectomy), pediatric eye trauma, and general pediatric OR
- Day shift: 8-hour shifts, 07:00–16:00 (5x8 schedule)
- No weekend or on-call requirements
- Float to other Charlotte-area ASCs may occasionally be required (COSC, Ballantyne ASC, Huntersville ASC, and Center City)
- EMR: Epic (required); SBAR communication protocol used
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required; license and certifications may be pending at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Scrub experience required
- Strong ENT surgical experience required
- Proficiency in emergency management skills: code response, fire safety, latex allergy protocol, and malignant hyperthermia response
- Proficiency in specimen handling/labeling and universal protocol (time-out procedure)
- Epic EMR experience required
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employment with Novant Health or New Hanover Regional requires a 12-month waiting period before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is needed
Additional Information
- Scrubs are provided
- Orientation is approximately 40 hours; pre-start modules (4–5 hours for non-acute roles) must be completed prior to start and annually
- Modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday
- Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a different pay rate
- First-time travelers will be considered if the candidate can scrub and has strong ENT experience
- Travel pairs are permitted, provided each candidate has their own transportation and can accommodate different schedules
