Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) in an acute care hospital setting with a Level II Trauma designation
- 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5 RN to patient, supported by patient care techs at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
- EMR: Epic (used in this position)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current, active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU or stepdown unit experience required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (determined by driver's license address) to qualify for this position
- Candidates may not be currently or recently (within the past year) employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health — those placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
Additional Information
- RNs must pass an open-book, pass/fail skills exam (minimum score of 90%) administered on the Friday of orientation week — failure to pass results in contract termination
- Orientation consists of a first week of onboarding followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- This is a fast-paced unit; candidates who thrive tend to demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills
- A charge nurse is present on each shift
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove artificial nails will result in contract termination
- RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be disclosed upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
- Green scrubs or facility dress code may apply — confirm with recruiter
