Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Labor & Delivery travel assignment in a Level II trauma acute care hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D charge or nurse manager experience and an active CA RN license.
Details
- Position is located in the Family Birth Center (L&D unit) of an acute care hospital with a Level II trauma designation and an onsite Level III NICU
- Unit includes 12 L&D beds, 19 postpartum beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU
- Patient population includes low- and high-risk deliveries; transfers out if baby has a known congenital defect requiring immediate surgery
- Patient ratios follow California state mandated ratios (1:4 to 1:1)
- EMR is Cerner; Fetal Link is used for fetal heart monitoring surveillance
- Phillips system used for fetal heart monitoring (no telemetry)
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required; weekend shifts are Friday/Saturday nights and Saturday/Sunday days
- Travelers are first to float; floating may include Peds (postpartum couplets) and NICU (feeders and growers only, if prior NICU experience exists)
- No ventilator or IV team responsibilities
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
- Laborist (OB physician) on-site 24/7
- OB techs provide scrub and desk coverage; no nurse aides on unit
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required (no pending certifications accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring
- COVID vaccination required
- Minimum 2 years of L&D charge nurse or L&D nurse manager experience required
- Cerner EMR experience beneficial given unit use
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation
- A Pass/Fail sterile technique test (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 2–3 shifts depending on ability to circulate; circulating is not required
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible
- Holiday coverage is integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
- Hospital scrubs are provided
- Candidates are not currently employees at local rates — local candidates may be accepted; contact for details
- Peak census periods are in July and October
