Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Behavioral Health position at a Magnet-designated pediatric psychiatric hospital, requiring at least 2 years of recent specialty experience and a MO or compact RN license in hand.

- Acute inpatient pediatric behavioral health unit within a 46-bed Magnet-designated pediatric psychiatric hospital
- Each RN covers one unit of 8–12 patients, supported by Behavioral Health Techs who directly observe and document on patients per physician order (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, or 1:4)
- Patient ratio is 1:12 across all shifts and weekends
- Patient population includes children and adolescents presenting with conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, PTSD, self-injurious behavior, suicidal behavior, substance use, and severe intellectual disabilities
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: every Sunday night shift, every Friday night shift, or every other Friday night shift
- No on-call responsibilities
- No floating required
- Charting via Epic
- Free parking on-site
Requirements
- Active MO RN license or compact RN license (both Kansas and Missouri licenses must be in hand at time of consideration)
- Current BLS certification required
- MANDT patient restraint certification required (can be obtained at facility if not already held)
- CPI or MANDT certification must already be in hand for consideration
- Trauma Informed Care Training and Zero Suicide Training required (provided on-site)
- Missouri Children's Division background check (MoVechs) required — a multi-step MO state background check completed through Missouri's DSS; takes a minimum of 3 weeks to clear and requires active candidate participation
- Minimum 2 years of recent pediatric behavioral health RN experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year
- Experience with 1:12 patient ratios required
- 2 professional references required: one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN; all references must be from within the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- RNs are responsible for medication administration and guiding overall unit operations, while Behavioral Health Techs provide direct patient observation and documentation
- Preferred experience includes treatment settings such as locked units, forensic, eating disorders, medical/psych, residential, and substance use/chemical dependency
- Preferred clinical skills include de-escalation techniques, crisis intervention, managing assaultive behavior, emergency chemical and physical restraints, seclusion protocols, psychoeducation, and IV management
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
- RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the duration of the contract
- MoVechs background check application must be submitted within 1 week of contract start; candidates must remain responsive throughout the process to avoid cancellation or a delayed start date
- Compliance modules are required and should be completed prior to start (approximately 10–15 hours total)
- Travel partners are not accepted for this position
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates (within 75 miles of the facility) are not eligible for this position
