Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU position at a Magnet, Level I Trauma, academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and an active MO or Compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the ICU of a large, short-term acute care hospital with 1,259 staffed beds
- Patient population includes respiratory failure/ARDS, acute chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke, cardiac arrest, DKA, multi-organ failure, and sepsis
- Unit serves pre- and post-op cardiac, thoracic, and abdominal surgery patients, as well as medicine and neuro-medicine overflow, pre- and post-transplant, and end-of-life/organ donation cases
- Patient ratio is 1:2
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within service line to other ICU units
- No on-call required
- Specialized equipment includes IV pumps/titration, CRRT/dialysis, ventilators, BiPAP, hemodynamic/invasive monitoring, and defibrillator/crash cart
- Charting is done in Epic; prior Epic experience is required
- Navy scrubs required
- Block scheduling is not available
- 13-week contract with the option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
Requirements
- Active MO RN license or Compact RN license required; must be valid and in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Required skills include: Medical and Surgical ICU care, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multisystem organ dysfunction/failure management, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition, CVP and Pulmonary Artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring, arterial line management, CRRT/chronic and acute renal failure management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, IV placement and maintenance, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, CVA/acute stroke management, BiPAP management, ventilator management and care of ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, respiratory failure management, ETT and NT suctioning, infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE, phlebotomy, and wound care including surgical wounds with drains and wound VAC
- Prior Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Travelers may remain for a maximum of 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
- Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Holiday coverage and charge RN assignments are required as needed per unit
- Monthly parking passes are available; candidates should contact facility Public Safety for options
