Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic medical center in Missouri, with experience in ICU ventilator management required.

Details

• Work setting is a large short-term acute care teaching hospital with 1,259 staffed beds
• Rotating assignments between ICU and general floor settings
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts per week (18:45–07:15)
• Every third weekend rotation required
• Holiday coverage is expected
• Charting is performed in Epic; experience required
• Block scheduling is not available for this position

Requirements

• Active RRT credential required
• BLS certification required
• Valid Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required at time of consideration; pending Illinois license accepted for IL-based candidates (please note if applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Experience managing mechanically ventilated patients required
• Experience with airway management including endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, tracheostomy/suctioning, oral and nasal airway management, and sputum specimen collection
• Experience administering inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex
• Experience with medication delivery systems including aerosol mask and trach setups and metered dose inhalers
• Experience with handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic nebulizers
• Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy
• Experience with BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator weaning, and troubleshooting high-pressure alarms
• ABG interpretation experience required
• Ability to walk relatively long distances within a large campus setting
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
• License required if applicable

• Candidate may occasionally be asked to precept respiratory therapy students at this teaching facility
• Medium to dark gray scrubs are required
• Active AARC membership and a bachelor's degree (or active pursuit thereof) in any field are strongly preferred
• RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
• Former permanent employees of BJC facilities must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Travelers may work at this facility for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break is required before returning
• Allied travelers may work for up to 12 months, after which a 6-month break is required before returning
• Parking passes are available for purchase through the facility's Public Safety department; costs and availability vary by lot
