Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA, with ventilator/trach experience and Epic proficiency required.
Details
- General Medicine PCU in a large acute care hospital (700+ licensed beds) designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet facility, and academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
- Hybrid unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds, including 2 beds dedicated to chronic trach/vent-dependent patients
- Common diagnoses include DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure
- Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
- Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to support Patient Care Tech coverage
- Schedule: 4x12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Floating required within skillset
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Ventilator and trach care experience required
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience administering cardiac drips (non-titrating)
- Respiratory support skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Familiarity with Rapid Response and Code team activation
- Experience with isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown environments
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include caring for a complex PCU/hybrid population with chronic vent and trach dependencies alongside general medical PCU patients
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
