Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in Charlotte, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Work in a 43-bed Emergency Department within a 337-bed hospital that is a designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, but has no trauma designation and is not a teaching hospital
  • Patient population spans pediatric to geriatric, with common cases including stroke, acute MI, respiratory illness, behavioral health, minor trauma, and uncontrollable diabetes, with a 25–30% admission rate
  • The ED includes 8 Clinical Decision beds for Behavioral Health (unlocked) and 4 additional beds used for admissions or holding
  • Average daily census is approximately 145 patients
  • RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3–4 based on acuity; CNAs serve as Unit Coordinators and assist with patient care
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating is required across Region 2 facilities, including Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, any Freestanding ED within the region, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — do not apply if not agreeable to this requirement
  • EMR: Epic
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Rover communication devices, Panda Infant Warmer, and LUCAS

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI
  • TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • General ED skillset required, including cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical care drip management, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, and conscious sedation
  • Epic EMR experience
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
  • Department support includes HCTs/Unit Secretaries, paramedics, a free-floating charge nurse, Patient Safety Attendants, a dedicated ED pharmacist (7 AM–11 PM), Social Worker, RT (24/7), ED Physicians and APPs, a Geriatric APP, Hospitalist (24/7), and Intensivist (24/7)
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Required scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Parking is free on-site
