Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery (LDRP) position at a small community hospital in Maine, requiring a compact or ME RN license and proficiency in all phases of L&D and postpartum care.

Details

  • Work in a small, 64-bed community hospital with a Level III Nursery averaging approximately 200 births per year
  • LDRP unit with 4 Labor beds and 4 Postpartum beds — patients remain on this unit through Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum/Couplet care
  • Low-risk patient population; high-risk patients are transferred out for labor and delivery
  • Patient types include postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP, bilirubin babies, NAS babies, and feeders/growers
  • Rooming-in model with no dedicated nursery — RN is responsible for newborn care as well
  • Unit also receives low-acuity Med/Surg overflow patients (IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab); no infectious patients and no telemetry monitoring required
  • Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:2 laboring, 1:1 active labor, 1:3–4 couplets, and 1:2–3 Med/Surg
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, 7A–7P, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis (every other)

Requirements

  • Active RN license — compact or Maine (ME) state license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • STABLE certification required; must be completed within 30 days of start if not already held
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; first-time travelers considered only with at least 3 years of L&D experience
  • Proficiency in all phases of LDRP care including Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum/Couplet care, and care of well newborns
  • Skills required include shoulder dystocia management, epidural management, nitrous oxide, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and neonatal care (VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin, and NAS babies)
  • Comfort with low-acuity Med/Surg overflow patient care (no telemetry monitoring)
  • Permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME
  • Must not have ever worked at a Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
  • Two professional references required within the past year — at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)
  • Full SSN, Driver's License, and copies of all certifications required for consideration
  • Flu vaccination required for employment clearance; medical exemptions are considered on a case-by-case basis

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities span the full LDRP continuum, including labor support, delivery, postpartum/couplet care, and newborn care
  • Will enter C-sections only to receive and provide initial neonatal care — circulating C-sections is not required
  • Floating is limited to tasking only in Med/Surg or ED; no patient assignment will be taken in those areas
  • Unit support includes a charge nurse, midwife (handles most care), OB available by call, HUC 4 days/week, phlebotomy, RT 24/7, and hospitalist 24/7; no CNA support
  • Orientation consists of a general hospital orientation plus 1 shift on the unit
  • Any scrub color is acceptable; professional appearance required — procedural scrubs are provided for OR only
  • All RTO requests must be submitted to and approved by the unit manager
  • Free parking is available on site
  • Interviews are conducted via Simpli.fi
