Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a fast-paced, high-volume Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and familiarity with high-acuity obstetrical care.
Details
- High-volume Labor & Delivery unit averaging 20 births and 30–40 admissions in a 24-hour period, with approximately 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum care, as well as high-risk antepartum and postpartum care; high-risk patients under 16 weeks are also cared for on the associated high-risk maternity unit
- Unit includes an obstetrical triage area for patient screening, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, medication administration, and scheduled/unscheduled Cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage
- Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on this unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 2:1
- 12-hour day shifts, 06:45–19:15 (3x12)
- Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float required as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
- Charting via Epic; Pyxis medication dispensing system utilized
- Contracts of 13–26 weeks accepted; 36 hours per week can be offered
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license required (license/certs pending at time of consideration accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
- Experience in a high-volume setting with more than 300 births per month required
- Proficiency in circulating to the OR, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care required
- Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required prior to start)
Additional Information
- This is a very fast-paced, high-acuity unit — workload and complexity may exceed what is typical of similar settings
- May be required to precept or orient new staff members to the unit as needed
- Orientation is 24 hours; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually
- Scrubs are provided (blue)
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved if it does not fall on a holiday
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- Travel pairs are welcome — each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- First-time travelers will be considered, provided they have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
