Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital, with Epic proficiency and cardiac telemetry experience required.
Details
- Position is located in the 6 West PCU of a 703-bed acute care, Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
- Unit serves adult and geriatric patients with a high patient turnover rate
- Primary patient focus includes chest pain management, rule in/out MI, ER flow facilitation, cardiology and medicine PCU overflow, and occasional post-cath patients
- Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors on unit; tele sitting is implemented
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Patient ratio is 1:5 (goal of 1:4, but consistently operates at 1:5)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
- Floating required within skillset
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and activation of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Experience administering and managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, and Lasix (no titration required)
- Respiratory support experience including nasal cannula, oxygen delivery, and non-invasive airway management
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, cardiac drip administration, IV therapy, and respiratory support for adult and geriatric PCU patients
- Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated for nursing excellence, and an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application
