Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Staff Float Pool Med/Surg position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg and/or ICU experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Details

• Float pool position with assignment to a home unit on the first day of orientation; potential units include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med/Surg Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
• Located within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU
• Patient populations vary by unit and include general surgery, vascular, neurological, oncology, orthopedic, urology, ENT, and general Med/Surg patients
• Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit assignment
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 36 hours per week with potential for 48
• Scheduling follows a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling; utilizes Smart Square
• Every other weekend required, or approximately 4 weekend days per month
• No on-call requirement
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per facility policy
• Floating may occur to like units (e.g., MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU tasks, MS-to-ER holds)
• Telemetry is monitored by telemetry techs; RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
• IV pumps: Plum 360 | Medication dispensing: Omnicell | Monitors: Spacelabs
• Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 for vitals, ADLs, glucose checks), charge nurses, HUC/receptionist, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalist, and telemetry monitoring techs

Requirements

• Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (can submit pending with ETA)
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg and/or ICU experience required
• Epic or Cerner EMR experience required; Cerner required if experience is exclusively ICU
• Trauma or surgical experience of at least 1 year required for Trauma Surgical unit assignment
• Clinical skills depending on unit may include: wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV starts, central line blood draws, trach care, PEG tubes, ostomy care, colostomy care, C-collar, abdominal binders, restraints, PCA pumps, wound vacs, hemovac/JP drains, foley care, and telemetry strip interpretation
• Chemo administration certification highly preferred for Med/Surg Oncology unit
• Telemetry experience is a plus; candidates with tele experience should be prepared to describe it in detail
• SSN, DOB (day and month), one reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months, and copies of certifications required for consideration

• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 6 months (from last shift worked) before being eligible to work as a traveler at this facility
• Return travelers who have been away from the facility for 1 or more years will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation plus 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for recent rehires will be determined based on last date worked
• Blackout dates during the contract period include: Labor Day weekend (8/30–9/1), Halloween (10/30–11/2); requests for time off during blackout dates require manager approval
• Scrubs may be any color
• Parking is available in the parking deck on levels 2 through 4 only
