Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) with 2+ years of experience, including Level II-III NICU and adult intubation proficiency, for an acute care day shift position at a hospital in West Virginia.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting serving adult, pediatric, and neonatal patient populations
- Unit handles a variable treatment load including multi-floor respiratory treatments, ICU ventilator management, and non-invasive ventilation (NIV)
- Facility is a Level III NICU
- Ventilators used include Servo U, Hamilton G5, Hamilton T1 (transport), Philips Respironics V60 (BiPAP), and AirVo/MaxTech high-flow heated systems
- Charting via Epic (experience preferred)
- 12-hour day shifts; every other weekend (Sat/Sun on days)
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday
- No on-call required
- Each RT carries an individual daily assignment (e.g., ER, ICU, 2nd floor)
- Orientation consists of approximately three 12-hour shifts
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
- RRT credential required; CRT accepted if license was held prior to July 1, 2022
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), NRP, and RRT verification
- Prior Level II or III NICU experience with ventilator management required
- Pediatric floor care and adult respiratory experience required
- Must be able to independently perform adult intubation
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Driver's license required for consideration
- License required if applicable
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include patient assessment, treatment planning, airway management, mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/CPAP, nebulizer/inhaler therapy, postural drainage, chest physiotherapy, O2 and humidity therapy, resuscitation, and ABG collection
- RTs perform EKGs during off-hours (5pm–7am) and all weekend, excluding the ER
- PFT (pulmonary function testing) is not required for this role
- Scrub color required: gray
- The department operates collaboratively — staff work as a team to manage fluctuating patient loads across shifts
- A lead therapist is present each shift; the RT Manager handles daily operations and schedule approval Monday–Friday
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
