Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position specializing in long-term antibiotic therapy and infectious disease patients, requiring strong neuro experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (10 West) in a hospital setting, focused on long-term antibiotic therapy
• 22-bed unit with all private rooms
• Patient population includes complex infectious disease diagnoses such as endocarditis, sepsis, osteomyelitis, abscesses, septic arthritis, and diabetic foot infections; many patients have underlying substance use histories
• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6
• Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are available on the unit to assist with vitals, fingersticks, and ADLs
• Portable telemetry packs are used; nurses are not required to read or interpret cardiac strips
• Charge nurses carry a reduced patient load of 2–4 patients
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts; weekends and holidays required as scheduled
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Strong neuro nursing experience required
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to patients with infectious disease diagnoses, many of whom have substance use histories — comfort working with this population is essential
• Drip titration is performed by physician order only; staff will be educated on any applicable protocols
• Orientation consists of 1–2 preceptored shifts on the unit
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break in service before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
