Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring at least 2 years of surgical unit experience, with night shift availability and telemetry competency.
Details
- Combination acuity unit serving adult medical/surgical and surgical stepdown patients
- Patient population includes a wide range of surgical and trauma diagnoses including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, MVAs, GSWs, stabbings, falls, various cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstruction, PVD, limb ischemia, hernia, and gangrene
- Common procedures include cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, kidney stone removal, amputations, and fem-pop bypass
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Every other weekend required
- 13- to 26-week contracts accepted; 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Floating to like units required as needed
- EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication dispensing); SBAR (communication)
- Special equipment includes wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes/Corpak, JP drains, Hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Proficiency required in: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team utilization, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care/management, surgical drain management, nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Two professional supervisor/manager references required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be provided prior to start)
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Orientation consists of 2 days of hospital orientation plus 24 hours of floor training; pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are also required
- Scrub requirement: all navy, or navy bottoms with white top
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; RTO is not permitted to be arranged onsite after booking
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation and reassignment may occur mid-contract
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP employee of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible at a modified rate
- Travel pairs are allowed; each must have independent transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
