Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position on a Renal Unit in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details
- Work setting is a 207-bed community hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation (no trauma designation, non-teaching)
- Assigned to the 3N Medical Telemetry Renal Unit (31 beds), with home unit determined on the first day of orientation
- Patient population includes end-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis, fluid overload, sickle cell, diabetes, altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, pancreatitis, and behavioral health
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6 (up to 1:7–8 during critical surge)
- CNA support ratio is 1:6–12
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required across all units within scope at the facility, as well as to other facilities within the assigned region — candidates who are not agreeable to inter-facility floating should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience (Resource Team requirement), with most recent experience within the last year
- General Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Departmental support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team (11 AM–7 PM and 11 PM–7 AM), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist coverage
- Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- RTO: Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
- Schedules are issued on a 6-week cycle
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
