Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in Minnesota, requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active MN RN license.

Details

  • 41-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital setting, with 12 semi-private and 29 private rooms
  • Patient population includes medical, surgical, orthopedic, and occasional behavioral health patients
  • Day shift ratio is 4–5:1; night shift ratio is 5–6:1
  • 12-hour shifts with a varied days/nights schedule; initial schedule will be 12-hour nights every weekend
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
  • Charting is done in Epic; medications dispensed via AccuDose
  • Equipment includes EZ Stand, Hoyer Lift, Overbed Lift, SCDs, glucometers, and Space Labs Vitals Machines
  • Floating may occur to Telemetry, Observation, Acute Rehab, or Post-Partum only when not needed in Med/Surg; per union contract, travelers float first
  • Float to OB, CCU, or ICU is limited to Med/Surg overflow coverage or 1:1 patient sitting duties
  • Telemetry monitoring experience required; unit handles admits and discharges

Requirements

  • Active MN RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Current BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Experience with orthopedic patients highly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with an interdisciplinary care team
  • Two current professional references required: one supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one peer or supervisor reference from a relevant specialty within the last 3 years
  • Certifications must be active at time of consideration — no pending certifications accepted

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include patient assessment, care planning, patient education, medication administration, wound care, and interdisciplinary communication
  • Procedures include chest tube management, trach care, assisting with paracentesis or thoracentesis, and caring for behavioral health patients with medical emergencies
  • Ward secretaries and nursing aides are available to support the nursing team
  • Scrub color required: Navy Blue
  • All clinicians must badge in and out at the facility
  • Candidates who have previously worked at any Sanford Health location must disclose this; prior Sanford Health employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their submission date
  • Candidates with a permanent address within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a adjusted pay rate
